Alan Fredendall, SPT
AAOMPT sSIG President
Another Combined Sections Meeting is in the books! This was my first CSM and it was definitely a change of pace from the AAOMPT conference that I know and love. We appreciated seeing all the Fellows, members, students and other friends of the Academy who stopped by the AAOMPT booth in the exhibit hall to say hello. It was an absolute pleasure to put a face to a name with many of you and even more so to talk to all of the new DPT graduates about the Fellowship process. We LOVED to see all of the energetic students who stopped by to learn more about AAOMPT and how they can get involved in the Academy as a student.
The Academy was well-represented as always at CSM 2017 with 29 presentations and posters by Fellows including a wonderful discussion on an emerging 2-year DPT model by Dr. Tim Flynn, FAAOMPT and Dr. Mike Walker, FAAOMPT along with Dr. John Childs and Dr. Diane Jette. In addition, Dr. Mark Milligan, FAAOMPT participated in a riveting Oxford-style debate hosted by the Section on Women’s Health regarding whether or not physical therapists should perform dry needling (#NeedleOrNot).
The student SIG leadership team will be releasing a video within the next few days that gives detailed information about AAOMPT, the AAOMPT sSIG and how students can get involved within the Academy as well as involve their classmates within AAOMPT. For those students looking to get more involved at the local level, consider starting an AAOMPT Student Local (ASL) group at your university. We have more information on how to get one started by clicking the “Student Local Program” tab at the top of the blog.
Thank you to all the Fellows, members, and students who made the trip down to San Antonio this year to represent the Academy! We look forward to seeing everyone again in Salt Lake City on October 18-22 for the annual conference.
