Description:
This session will present an overview of emergency department (ED) physical therapy (PT) services, describe the benefits of these services, and provide competency training for physical therapists who want to develop a program and/or work in this setting.
Objectives: Explain how physical therapy consultation has the potential to supplement and enhance care for patients presenting to the ED. Describe various models of ED PT practice being utilized by existing US and international programs. Illustrate the process successful programs have used to obtain reimbursement for ED PT services and evaluate the fiscal feasibility of reimbursement for such services in their respective facility. Describe unique aspects of patient management that may be provided by PTs and are unique to the ED setting, and perform these skills competently.
